Solidarity

Support a good cause with your participation in the PIM Running Circuit!

Running and charity are more closely related than you might think. They go hand in hand at various running events and marathons all over the world. Running for charity organization is common at these events with many charity supporters taking part. In the Czech Republic this form of charity is still very young but is gaining in popularity.
Prague International Marathon is calling on the PIM Running Circuit participants to support any charity they find appealing.

Tyfloservis o.p.s. - rehabilitation for blind and visually impaired

The loss or serious weakening of vision causes many changes in one's life. Daily and routine tasks become difficult to manage and people are more at risk of losing a job. Relationships with family, friends and others are put under stress. Help is necessary in such situations because one can handle problems more easily if he knows how.

Tyfloservis provides free assistance for blind or visually impaired people on their road toward independence by teaching them to use a white cane, read and write using the Braille system or cope with tasks such as cooking, laundry or childcare. We also help those who can "still see something" to take advantage of their visual potential providing them with various optic devices and proper lights.

Since 1991, Tyfloservis instructors provide assistance at people's homes as well as our special equipment facilities.

The Czech Cystic Fibrosis Association

Children with cystic fibrosis are called "salty children" because of the higher-than-average salt content in their sweat. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a serious genetic disease, affecting primarily the pulmonary system (lungs) and digestive tract. Characteristics of the disease include the formation of abnormally thick mucus that remains in the airways and pancreas. Further complications that accompany cystic fibrosis are diabetes, liver cirrhosis, osteoporosis, infertility in men, etc.

Only about half of CF patients reach the age of 32. The CF patients require everyday intensive care. The Czech CF Association was founded in 1992 and is currently the only organization of its kind in the Czech Republic serving CF patients.

Running with those that can't

The charity organization Running With Those That Can't was established by students of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University (with the current support of students from other universities). The founding members believe that philanthropy and engagement in helping others is the basis for becoming better students, people and doctors. Their aim is to break social taboos associated with handicapped people in the Czech Republic and help them live longer, happier and better lives.

The goals and mission of Running With Those That Can't:

  • Educate the Czech population on the needs of disabled people
  • Provide assistance to the disabled and their families

We organize a fundraising campaign to buy wheelchairs for disabled children in cooperation with the Prague International Marathon, our sponsors and partners. During the course of the race, we push wheelchair-bound children along making them feel like running. After the race, the children and their families get the wheelchairs. We plan to participate in this year's marathon.
