People with cystic fibrosis have much saltier perspiration, which is why they are called "salty kids" in layman's terms. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a hereditary and incurable disease. It seriously impairs the digestive and respiratory systems. Abnormally thick mucus that remains in bronchial passages and the pancreas is characteristic of the disease. Cystic fibrosis also brings other complications – includingdiabetes, cirrhosis of the liver, osteoporosis and infertility in men. Roughly half of those with the disease today will live to 32 years of age. Those with the disease need demanding treatments every day. The Czech Cystic Fibrosis Association was founded in 1992, and is the only organisation of its kind in the Czech Republic bringing together those affected by the disease.

Running with those that can't

Running With Those That Can’t o.s. is a charity based in Prague Czech Republic that is organization by Medical Students at the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University as well as students from other local universities. With the belief that philanthropy is the gateway to becoming better students, better citizens and better doctors; the students set out to break the social taboo about the special needs population in the Czech Republic and helping them to live longer, happier and more healthy lives. We wanted to improve the quality of life for ALL citizens.

The mission of Running With Those That Can’t o.s. is one based of education and participation with the aim to integrate the physically challenged population into everyday life. We can accomplish that by educating the able bodied by making them more aware of the issues that the disabled face every day. We hold special conferences for the public, students and doctors on how to better understand and treat and care for their patients with special needs. Second, we actively help the disabled to participate in activities that would otherwise be inaccessible to them as well as participate in their lives. Last, we advocate for change and a better understanding and for a city that is more handicapped accessible.

The Highlight of our charity is the participation and partnership with the Prague International Marathon. We raise money through sponsors and individuals for specialized strollers and then push (as teams) the children in the Prague half marathon. In 2011 we will expand to also include the full marathons. The strollers are donated to the families after the race. These special strollers give the children and their families more freedom with better mobility. Families can access parks and nature, the city center. Doors are opening more and more do to our advocacy work and our general efforts of inclusion. All extra money that the charity raises goes to support foundations that deal with Cerebral Palsy and Muscular Dystrophy. Please help us by donating today.
