JMC rules

A team of boys and girls from the same high school run the marathon course (42.195 m) as a relay. Each team must have at least three girls (who run the 3rd, 5th and 7th section). Nine sections are 4000 m long and one is 6195 m. The length of each section at a semifinal race can be adjusted to local conditions but in total they must have the length of a standard marathon course.
Each participant completes his or her leg upon an exchange with the next runner starting his or her leg. A successful exchange occurs when the runner finishing the leg touches the hand of the next runner in a designated area (runners at the finals in Prague exchange an electronic chip). The first team to complete the race will be declared the winner.

A school team

Each school entering the race selects a team of 10 runners (two teams only upon agreement with organizers) made of boys and girls attending the same high school. Each team must have at least three girls.
Schools unable to make a complete team from their own students and who combine with another school must declare this combined status no later than the registration date. A team of students from more than one school cannot qualify for the finals. Such teams are also required to have at least three girls competing.
Students born in 1990 or later can compete in the race.

Applications

Applications must be submitted by mail, e-mail or fax no later than four days before their semifinal race.

School-level races

The school-level runs are not mandatory. Schools set their own rules. The school whose race has the best preparation and who provides the most detailed documentation of the race receives a wild card for the finals.

Semifinals

The semifinal races will take place in April 2010. There will be 14 semifinal runs taking place in larger cities across the Czech Republic. The best teams from each semifinal qualify for the finals. If there are 10 or fewer teams in the regional semifinals, only the winner qualifies; if there are between 11 and 20 teams, the first two teams proceed and if the number is higher than 21, the top three teams go to the finals.
If teams from abroad or another region take part in the semifinals, they too can qualify for the finals. Such a qualification will not limit the number of teams eligible from the host region (for example, if 15 teams participate in the semifinals and a team from abroad or another region places second, the teams from the first, second and third place qualify). Each school can participated in only one semifinal race.
A team will be disqualified from the race if it has less than three girls, if at least one member comes from a different school, and if at least one member is not a full-time student.

Finals

The final race to be run within the traditional Volkswagen Prague Marathon on 9 May 2010 will be attended by:

  • schools which qualified in the semifinal races for the finals
  • schools which received a wild card. The organizer may give one or more wild cards to a team from the Czech Republic and this team is awarded official placement positions in the finals
  • teams from abroad which receive an invitation (they are not awarded official placement positions in the finals)
